Spinning Plates

Have you ever gone to the circus and watched one of those performers that spins plates? They start by getting one plate spinning on a stick then before you know it they have six or seven going. They are constantly running from stick to stick giving them a turn to keep the plate from crashing to the ground. My life feels like that sometimes. This morning was a good example. I woke up at 3AM to relieve my wife with watching our newborn. She went off to bed to get some well deserved sleep. I got the baby to go to sleep then I drifted off to never never land. When I woke up it was 7:30. Oh crap!!! I had thirty minutes to wake up my oldest daughter, get her fed and dressed and off to school. The kicker was as soon as I would get my oldest daughter awake the baby would start crying. I would calm her down then I would have to start waking the oldest up again. Back and forth and back and forth. All while dodging a dog that likes to stay right at my heel and listening to a cat cry that it was time to eat. It must have been quite comical to watch this half asleep crazy dad do this dance for a solid fifteen minutes. Instead of going nuts and getting angry I couldn’t help but laugh. Everything went fine because my lovely wife woke up to feed the baby and take control of the situation like only a mother can and it was smooth sailing after that. I got my oldest off to school and came home and lit up my Nording Hunter with some Frog Morton and sipped on some coffee to re-set the day. Do you ever have days like this?? How do you handle them?? I would love to hear your stories. Take care and have a great day.

  1. I’m there with ya, Cody. With a 2.5 year old running around the house like a banshee seeking constant attention, a pregnant wife who’s about to burst, and a pretty heavy workload, it does seem like life is a neverending balancing act. Luckily, I’m blessed with an understanding and trooper of a wife who’s totally cool with me sitting on the back deck with a Red Stripe and bowl of FM Cellar. Take care, Dave

    • Just wait. Once that little one arrives it’s a whole new ball game. The best is yet to come. Take care Dave.
